FAQ

After the Zoo closes for the day, we will have exclusive access to the Zoo for the evening. The evening begins with a pizza dinner, followed by a night tour of the Zoo. We will then spend the night and after breakfast have another tour before the Zoo opens to the public for the day. The Wild Night Sleep Over includes admission to the Zoo for the remainder of Sunday and families will be able to stay as long as they wish on Sunday.

We will be arriving Saturday, March 14, 2026 by 6:30pm. The Program ends at 9:00 am on Sunday, March 15, 2026 and families may depart any time they choose after this time.

Each family is responsible for their own transportation to the Zoo. The Zoo is located at 4250 Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

A rough plan of events is below: 6:30pm Arrive at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo 6:45pm Gather at Zoo Entrance 7:00pm Enter Zoo 7:15pm Pizza Party Dinner 8:00pm Evening Tour begins! Possible exhibits we might visit: Elephant Barn, Giraffe Barn (feed the giraffes), The Loft (visit and touch an animal ambassador), Water's Edge: Africa 9:30pm Prepare for bed 7:30am Wake up, pack up, breakfast 8:15am Tour of Rocky Mountain Highlands 9:00am Wild Night Sleep Over concludes, but families can remain in the Zoo as long as you'd like!

Due to space limitations, participation is limited to one Scout and one parent (families with multiple Scouts can have multiple parents attend).

Each Scout must be accompanied by a parent.

The Wild Night Sleep Over cost is $70 per participant. The Pack will cover 100% of the cost for each Scout and subsidize the Adult cost by $20. Therefore, the cost for each adult participant will be $50 due to the Pack. Remember that Zoo admission is included in the event cost. If the additional cost is prohibitive to your Scout's participation in this event, please come talk to Jeff or Justin. The Church has scholarships available for Scouting and we can assist based on need. Our Pack never wants cost to be a barrier to participation.

We will be sleeping in a communal space in the Lodge at Moose Lake near the Grizzly Grill Cafe (see Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Map). The space will be separated as much as possible such that males / females / families will be able to spread out. The exact arrangements will be determined upon arrival. The floor is polished concrete and has AC/heat, 3 male restrooms, and 3 female restrooms. You will need a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad is highly recommended. The Zoo has a limited number of sleeping pads available to rent ($3 each).

Scouting America requires a completed Scouting America Medical Form (Parts A & B). Cheyenne Mountain requires a completed Participant Waiver

Scouting America requires a completed Scouting America Medical Form (Parts A & B). Cheyenne Mountain requires a completed Participant Waiver. Scouting America requires all adult participants to complete S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth Training due to Adults and Youth sharing the same sleeping space (see next section).

You do not need to be a registered member or leader of Scouting America to take the training. S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth Training (SYT) is a free 90 minute online course. To take the course: Log in to my.scouting.org and create an account if you do not have an existing account. You can launch the SYT course from the home page. English Version Spanish Version Upon completion of the course, print the training certificate to submit. All registered leaders are already required to complete S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth Training and to renew the training annually. Every Scouting America event requires two-deep SYT adult participants. There have been instances in the past where the registered leaders had conflicts and Pack events had to be canceled due to insufficient leadership. By having more adults complete SYT, the Pack can reduce the possibility of needing to cancel an event. YOU are helping ensure the success and safety of our Pack.

We are a Family Pack with both male and female youth participants. Due to the shared sleeping spaces, there are minimum participation requirements. We must have at least two male adults and four male youth attend, likewise at least two female adults and four female youth attend. (Note: this is not likely to be a concern.)

Saturday Dinner and Sunday Breakfast are provided. If you choose to spend the remainder of Sunday at the zoo, then lunch and additional food is each family’s responsibility.

The event is NOT cancelled due to poor weather (e.g. cold or snow). If Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is open, then the event is still on. If the Zoo does close, then we are offered the opportunity to reschedule.

At this time, we need to restrict participation to registered Scouts and parents. If space allows, then we will communicate a plan for additional participants to register and join. Families would be responsible for the full cost of additional participants to attend.

The Pack will send a formal RSVP at the beginning of January. Full payment and SYT completion certificate are due to the Pack no later than Saturday, February 14, 2026. If you paid and after this date are unable to attend, then no refunds can be given (as the Pack will have already paid Cheyenne Mountain) unless another participant can be found to take your place(s).

Send your question to Cubmaster Jeff (jpaone@gmail.com).

Complete the S.A.F.E. Guarding Youth Training. Look for the formal RSVP to be sent. Ask additional questions. Get excited!
